Morne Marie, Trinidad

Morne Marie, Trinidad is the mountain on which the St. Bernard family and its followers live. The spot was originally a cocoa plantation. Maman appeared on the plantation grounds to avenge the murders of two slaves who were hung after they ran away but were captured. Maman burned the plantation house to the ground. The people who lived there abandoned the property because they were afraid of Maman. Maman built the original house in which the St. Bernard women live on the ruins of the former plantation house.
