Summary

Pages 174 - 194 -- Jon shares the latest news from Lancaster with Jacob. Things in the city are getting worse; there is less food, more hungry people, growing piles of trash on the streets, looting, and even murders. The National Guard had imposed a curfew, and looters were now to be shot on sight. People were also leaving the cities in large numbers. That night, Jacob and Mike's families are sharing a cheerful dinner when it is interrupted by another of Sadie's seizures. Shauna, who is a nurse, helps take care of her. When Sadie awakes, she says "Im just like him, Dadi. He's just like me," and later tells Jacob that she feels as if she has done something horrible, but it wasn't her (177). Since the seizure she has begun humming a song Jacob sang to her when she was little, which he learned...
