Summary

The Vanderbilts prepare for their world cruise in early October. Alva is struck by how mature her daughter has grown to be and realizes how much time has passed in her life. William has brought along several of his friends for the journey, including Oliver. Alva realizes that she is truly in love with Oliver. Another of William’s friends, Winty, shows interest in Consuelo despite being much older than her. While having a conversation with Oliver, Alva realizes Winty trying to sneak off with Consuelo and reprimands him.

Alva meets with her friend Lady Lansdowne when they dock in India, and she encourages Alva to pursue a good match for Consuelo. Alva resists initially, believing Consuelo too young, before acquiescing and growing excited to matchmake.
