Summary

In Ngotho’s hut, Njeri and Nyokabi sit with him and cry. This makes Njoroge afraid, as he knows they would only do that if there was no hope for his father. Four days have passed since Ngotho was brought home from being tortured and he has been unconscious for that time. At last, he wakes up and looks at his family. He notices that Njoroge has come from school, but thinks that he is only there to laugh at him. He also thinks about Kamau and what might happen to him, having been arrested for Jacobo's murder, and then about Mr. Howlands. Ngotho is rambling deliriously.
