Point of View

This novel is told from the point of view of a third-person narrator. The point of view focuses on the two main characters, Maddie and Theo. Sections of the novel will follow either Maddie or Theo, narrating the events through that character’s perspective. In this way, the reader understands both Maddie and Theo’s opinions of each other. For instance, the reader knows that Maddie does not like Theo because of the way he reacted when she told him about her career: “Why would anyone pay you to help them get dressed?” (4). Maddie was particularly angered when people looked down on her job so Theo’s comment was exactly the wrong thing for him to say.
