Summary

At the opening of “Danvers vs. Peabody” (186) Boy Cory was in the locker room, waiting for Brian Robinson and other possible bullies to leave the showering area so that he could investigate a tangle of hair circling a drain. Once alone, he picked up the clump of hair and examined it, but soon gave up, admitting to himself that he had lost his strip of blue tube sock.

An enthusiastic letter written by Boy Cory explains that he and the girls on the team are “casting spells and brewing potions” (189). Heather has encouraged them to improvise. The letter shows a recipe for Boy Cory’s “Irresistible Potion #1” (189), which appears to be a love potion. He confesses that he lost his armband, but declares that he will make his own destiny.
