Summary

In Chapter 4, Alison continues to walk home in the rain. She recalls the ways that Veronica had to hide her HIV status from her colleagues. She remembers how Veronica was both elegant and vulgar, taking a sip of tea, dabbing her lips, and then calling her boyfriend a cunt. Veronica's boyfriend was a promiscuous bisexual man named Duncan.

Alison recalls that her parents went with her when she signed up with a modeling agency in Manhattan because they wanted to make sure that Alison would be taken care of. They were not happy that Alison was going to interrupt her schooling but Alison was adamant about modeling. Alison flew to Paris where she was met by the agency's rep, Rene, who gave her cocaine and seduced her immediately.
