Summary

A young mare comes out of the woods, and Adonis’s horse leaps for it. Adonis tries to control his steed, but the horse is only interested in the mare. While his horse is distracted, Venus approaches him once again. She gently takes his hand and says that she wishes they could switch places, and then she would have pity on him.

He asks for his hand back, and she tells him she will only give it to him if he agrees to love her. He says that he only cares about getting his horse’s attention back, but Venus says that it is normal for the horse to feel lust, as she does. He says that she is hurting him and asks her to stop.

She is heartbroken, and falls down to the ground. He believes she is dead and tries to revive...
