Part One: Chapters 7-8, (pg 83-110) Summary

Alyx quickly gets Raine back to the camp and into his tent. She immediately summons Joss and Rosamund, who realize the gravity of the wound. Rosamund works diligently to tend to the sword wound. To soothe Raine, Alyx plays the flute and sings to him. While the wound seems stable, Raine begins to slip into a fever.

Night and day, Alyx keeps watch over Raine. She is very worried about his health as well as whether the convicts will find out he is sick. She, Rosamund, and Joss work hard to keep the camp in order and keep everyone away from Raine. One night, Raine seems to be in a deep sleep. In his fever he is asking for his dead sister Mary. Alyx goes over the Raine's cot and tries to soothe...
