Mia is a nice, well-mannered and thoughtful girl but she also has a tendency to want to control people and situations. The focus of this story is on her struggle on how to deal with her boyfriend and Valentine's Day. She is passive-aggressive in that she wants to steer her boyfriend toward celebrating Valentine's Day with her. She does not directly address the subject with him; instead, she drops hints and tries to push him toward what she wants. Although her attempt to control and manipulate the situation is not mean-spirited, she has learned from an expert.
