Summary

In Chapter 24, Clive woke to find a young fawn in his yard. He brought it into the house to clean paint off it, and it “went berserk” (144).

In Chapter 25, when Emma returned home, “the Everton Volunteer Fire Department was out front” and her mother was very upset about the state of the house, which belonged to Ralph (146).

In Chapter 26, Ingrid was “terrified to tell Ralph that his house had been wrecked” (149). But when they arrived at Sundown Acres to tell him what happened, “Ralph Kelsey had been dead for just over an hour” (150). Another resident named Angus was cleaning his gun and it misfired, killing Ralph accidentally. Ingrid was relieved to know that “Ralph wasn’t mad at her” (152).
