Ojoto

Ojoto is a town in Nigeria. It is where Ijeoma is born. She is raised there by her parents for about ten years. However, after her father is killed in an air raid, her mother sends her to live in another town. Ijeoma’s mother, Adaora, eventually leaves Ojoto as well.

Nnewi

Nnewi is a town in Nigeria. After the death of Ijeoma’s father, Ijeoma is sent to live in Nnewi, there, she is sheltered and raised by a grammar school teacher and his wife. When the orphaned Amina arrives in Nnewi, the teacher and his wife take in Amina as well. Ijeoma and Amina eventually develop a romantic and sexual relationship. When the teacher discovers this, he sends Ijeoma back to live with her mother.
