Chapters 11, and 12, pp. 109-140 Summary

In chapter eleven, Tommo realizes that he and Toby are stuck living with the dreaded Typees. When they wake up, Tommo and Toby are surrounded by young girls; later, groups of male natives come to see the two sailors. A warrior comes in wearing a fancy headdress made of feathers. The man is tattooed all over his body, including two stripes vertically across his face. It is Mehevi, presumed to be some sort of noble or chief, who seeks out information about the French invasion force in the bay of Nukuheva. Mehevi sees that Tommo's leg is swollen and brings in a native doctor. The doctor hits the leg and causes Tommo intense pain, while Mehevi holds him until at last the doctor stops. Mehevi assigns a native, named Kory-Kory, in the household to supervise Tommo's care...
