Summary

In London, Bill meets with Brancusi. Three years have passed since Bill and Emmy’s marriage, and they have one child with another on the way. Brancusi attempts to persuade Bill to return to the States, as he has spent the past six months in London recycling old shows, his last two new ones having flopped in New York. Bill is upset to have been reminded of his failure, his drinking, and the fight he had with his friend Aronstael. He makes an excuse not to have dinner with Brancusi. When Brancusi realizes he has been lied to, he is hurt, and decides that Bill is no longer someone he wants to work with in the future.

Bill returns home to Emmy and reports to her about the meeting with Brancusi. When Bill acts sore that Brancusi brought up his fight with Aronstael...
