Summary

The narration interrupts itself with a series of paragraphs that all being with the words "No wait" (10). In these paragraphs, the narrator backtracks through the relationship between Gracie and Marlon after they arrive at the hotel. The narrator describes them having dinner at a diner after driving up north. The interruptions go further back, to the conversation Gracie and Marlon had about "Kidney Boy" and to Gracie's revelation one day that she was abused by both her stepfather and another man in her life. Another paragraph describes a sudden snowstorm they experienced standing outside the trailer, where they were both excited about the snow until the ambulances started to arrive.

The story returns to Gracie and Marlon in the hotel, where they are in bed. They have sex, and Gracie is able to see the entirety of Marlon's scar on his body. Marlon thinks...
