Chapter 13 Summary

Grandma, in an effort to show off her wound, goes to Clara's to get her hair dyed and set. She enters with grey hair and emerges with a red coif. Stephanie then goes to the bond office, hoping Grandma's presence will be a help, since she has no good news for Vinnie. In fact, after Vinnie threatens to remove her from the case, Grandma argues and threatens to tell Vinnie's Grandma Bela. Appropriately frightened, Vinnie relents.

After some shopping, during which Grandma buys clothes like Stephanie's, including Doc Martens, they return home. Stephanie's mom asks for her help in the kitchen, which is a code word for a serious talk. While Mrs. Plum prepares dinner, she implores Stephanie to catch Kenny, recalling his violent childhood. Morelli appears in time for dinner.
