Summary

Chapter 31 is told from Malcolm’s perspective on October 7th. Malcolm drives to school in the morning and is confronted by Kyle and his friend Theo. They beat him up, but then Declan stops the fight and drives Malcolm to his house, where they watch the news, which confirms it was Brooke’s body they found in the woods.

Chapter 32 is told from Ellery’s perspective on October 7th. She and Ezra stay home from school, and then Mia and Malcolm come over to watch the news. Sadie calls, and Ellery confronts her about her real father, and Sadie admits she slept with Mr. Rodriguez. After she hangs up, Ellery tells Officer Rodriguez her theory about the McNutly’s, but he says they all have solid alibis, and again asks her to stay out of the investigation.
