Part 2, Chapters 6 and 7 Summary

These two chapters focus on significant developments in Tom's spiritual character.

Chapter 6 - Fever in the School: This chapter is set two years after the end of the previous chapter. Arthur has moved rapidly into the higher grades, and has become physically sturdier and more active. Martin has left the school and is on an expedition to the South Seas on a boat owned by a relative. East and Tom are still in school, progressing not quite as quickly as Arthur but still doing well. One night a rumor is heard that a potentially dangerous fever has started to spread through the school. After several days of more rumor and increasing numbers of sick boys, Arthur catches the fever and is quarantined. Tom makes several efforts to see him, but is always turned back. As he begins to brood...
