Summary

The chapter in Michael’s journal, titled “June 1990, France,” continues: Michael’s reserved nights at the mas come to an end. However, once he arrives at the nearby bus stop, he walks back to the mas and convinces the owner, Monsieur Crillon, to hire him as a maid. Michael begins to settle into a rhythm where he works hard, taking care to deeply clean each room, while living quietly.

During a few days off Michael has, he decides to travel to a photography exhibit at a museum in a nearby city. As he travels, he becomes deeply distressed when he momentarily cannot find his journal, but quickly recovers it. When he returns to the mas, Michael meets a pleasant couple who are customers there, named Marion and Guillaume.
