Marseilles

Marseilles is the overall setting for most of the novel. The setting is real. Many of the specific settings in Marseilles are real. Antonio and Father wander the streets of the city, finding places they would never have visited except for the requirement that Antonio stay awake for 48 hours straight.

The Centre Saint-Paul

The Centre Saint-Paul is a medical center where Antonio sees Professor Gestaut, one of the best neurological doctors available at the time. Antonio has two very different views of this place, based mainly on the people he encounters. The first time, those waiting have obvious injuries and some are wearing helmets to keep them from hurting themselves when they have seizures. The second time, those people are noticeably absent. The facility is very modern, especially compared the the first hospital, with extensive resources and equipment.
