Point of View

The novel is narrated in the firs-person present perspective primarily by the Steckler sisters, Ellie and Stella, though Raven is granted a single chapter in which the point of view is told through her first-person present narration. The chapters switch back and forth between Ellie and Stella, though the pattern is not consistent.

There are multiple points in the novel where Stella narrators two chapters back-to-back while Ellie disappears from the narrative. While at first this seems like an inconsistency, it is later revealed that Ellie is hiding the secret of how she and Noah lured Mila out to the pit and pushed her in, leaving her there while they went to school so they could intimidate her into keeping the secret of their abortion.
