Summary

This chapter is a flashback to the previous summer. Thea woke up early in the morning and went out to the porch, where she found Sam already sitting. Sam told Thea that he wanted to go away and travel. Thea thought they had never spoken of leaving home. She laughed at Sam’s thought of going out on a ship. Sam was offended, even after Thea apologized. Sam said that Thea wouldn’t be sad if he left, because she didn’t need anyone except Georgie.
