Skala Sikamineas

Skala Sikamineas, a village in Lesbos, is the first place Mina visits and stays after arriving on the island. It is where she meets her friend Emma, who is there with a Swedish NGO. She also meets a cross-dressing men named Nikolaos. Emma claims to have seen Mina’s Lebanese writer friend, a character based on Alameddine himself, in the area and also speaking to Nikolaos.

Moria

Moria is a camp in Lesbos where refugees are taken to be processed and given shelter. Mina goes to the camp with Emma, as well as Sumaiya and her family, who are staying in the barracks there. Shortly after arriving at Moria, Mina decides to change hotels in order to be closer, so that she can better continue her volunteer work there with Sumaiya’s family and others.
