Summary

In Chapter 24, Agamemnon's men knock on Calchas's door. Agamemnon demands to see him. He is surprised to find Odysseus and Machaon with Agamemnon when he arrives. Calchas tries to discern what is going on and why Agamemnon looks so ill. Agamemnon talks about his bad dreams, about the gods' anger, and about how to appease them. Everyone in the room seems on edge. Then Agamemnon announces that he and Cassandra will marry. He wants Calchas to perform the ceremony at once. They drag Cassandra in. Calchas pities her. Outside afterwards, Calchas and Odysseus talk about what to do. Calchas is supposed to devise a way of appeasing the gods. Odysseus thinks he should sacrifice Pyrrhus.
