Summary

Henry informs Elizabeth that her cousin Maggie is to be married to a man named Sir Richard Pole. The reader learns that Teddy has been locked in the tower for more than six years and will not be released upon Maggie’s wedding. Elizabeth is surprised as Richard Pole is 30 and has no discernible fortune. However, Maggie is excited, as she wants to escape the suspicion caused by her family name.
