Celestial objects are referenced towards the end of the poem: “The stars went out and so did the moon” (Line 32). This symbolizes the passage of time as well as the dimming of hope in this community. The singer had, through the power of his music, created a brief moment of hope and solidarity. Once the man stops singing, that feeling disappears and life returns to what it was.
