Summary

Bud recalls meeting a man in New England of Dutch ancestry. He told Bud that young men always want to travel out in the world, when the important journey is to look inside oneself.

Another memory recounts how Bud got his name. Maggie referred to him as a “new bud” (112) on their family tree and Bud’s dad liked it so much that that is what they named him.
