Summary

Chapter 37 is titled “Bob the Cop.” Moehringer's formal time to “tryout” as a full reporter came to an end. He spent more time at the bar. An actor dropped in one night, “coating his stomach with buttermilk before getting down to some serious drinking” (334). One night, a young Publicans employee named Jimbo called Moehringer “Junior” (because that's what Steve called Moehringer). He then asked about the book Moehringer was reading. Moehringer knew Jimbo had grown up at the bar and was a good man, and later was not sure why he got so angry. A moment later, Jimbo stood up fr Moehringer. Moehringer noticed Bob looking angry.
