Hominy Ridge School

Hominy Ridge School is the school local to the Culver home. This is a rural, one-room building where Tansy becomes responsible for teaching all the children from the youngest child who is only six to those who are nearing completion of the eighth grade. The building is heated by wood. There is a bell used to summon the children and a raised platform for the teacher. The blackboard is just a wall that has been painted black. There are two outhouses where the children go to the bathroom. The building becomes more like a classroom under Tansy's guidance and with a few gifts, including a flag and some school supplies.
