Summary

Chapter 11 begins with Geppetto discovering the photo of a boy in the back of a drawer. He is delighted with this find, feeling, “what a shock it is, after all this time to see another face” (137). He assumes it is a photo of Tugthus’ son and wonders why the photo was hidden in a drawer. Geppetto is now down to forty candles.

One day, Geppetto notices there are hooks in the main cabin and hoists himself on one of them, hanging himself up the way he had once done to Pinocchio. He is then unable to get down, and “what started as an experiment became a torture” (138). He worries about what will happen if the ill-face finds him there and is finally freed when his clothing tears.
