Point of View

The novel is written in first person from the perspective of Wallace Rachpaul. Wallace seems to address the reader throughout the novel. In Chapter 2, there is an example as he begins to describe himself. He says, “One thing about me, I love Legos” (8). This seems to be directed at the reader because there would be no other reason for Wallace to say this. The wording of the statement makes it clear that he is revealing something specific about himself for the benefit of the reader, rather than just making a random statement.

Wallace seems to be an honest narrator because he reveals information that sometimes puts himself in a poor light. The fact that he is willing to reveal the negative aspects about himself may help some readers find Wallace more likable and honest.
