Summary

Bella tells the audience that several days pass without Christopher visiting her. In that time, there is heavy rain, and in class Christopher is distant. She narrates a dialogue between them – Christopher is not onstage – in which Christopher speaks of how his novel seems to be taking over his time, and his thoughts. Bella then tells the audience that she told Christopher she misses their conversations, and that she asked whether she did something wrong. When he said she did not, she insisted he look at her. “I’m surprised,” she says, “by the volume of my voice, its sudden intensity” (52).
