Part 1: Chapters 15-25 Summary

In Chapter 15, Joe walks Lennon to work the following morning and they talk. Then Joe kisses Lennon and it is a magical kiss filled with all the promise that she has learned from reading such works as Wuthering Heights.

In Chapter 16, after work, Lennon returns home to find Toby waiting for her in her bedroom. They do not talk, but immediately fall into one another's arms. They begin to undress and begin to succumb to passion when they hear the door close downstairs. Lennon quickly begins to dress and urges Toby to do the same. Then Lennon realizes it is Joe. Lennon meets Joe at the door and he is surprised to see Toby there, but Lennon convinces him they are only going through some of Bailey's things. Joe then invites Lennon to his house that night.
