Summary

In Chapter One, Ina, Evelyn, and Anastasia head to a New Year’s Eve party at an artist collective and agree, at Ina’s insistence, not to split up. Inside the crowded rooms, Ina loses her sisters almost immediately and searches through smoke, music, and strangers until she meets Hector, who helps her look and stays beside her as the night grows tense. Ina finds Evelyn and Anastasia just as the countdown begins, and the sisters stumble into the new year together. After midnight, Ina and Hector step outside, talk, and kiss, but the moment is interrupted when Ina realizes she still does not know where her sisters have gone. She pushes through the party again, finds them safe in a bathroom, and leaves with them, carrying both relief and frustration.
