The Business Card

Styx produces a business card which identifies him as an “anything man." The card symbolizes that Styx is a deal maker. "Anything man" could symbolize that Styx will make whatever deal is necessary for any given situation. It also implies that his self-identity is a "work in progress."

Caleb says he is not surprised that Styx produces business cards, because he is the kind of youngster who is “cool” enough to pull it off.

The Great Escalator Trade

This is the theory that a person can trade something for something slightly more valuable into infinity, and it symbolizes Styx's attitude about life when he first meets Bobby Gene and Caleb.
