Summary

When Nick and Bex leave Emma’s chamber, they find Clive trying to worm his way past the guards. Clive asks for a word with Bex, but Nick grabs him and shoves him into a room that turns out to be Richard’s study. Clive is indignant, though, claiming he “owns” (435) Nick and Bex and that he is sick of the attention surrounding them. He is upset that Nick never used his power to advance Clive’s career. Clive says they cannot hurt him because Joss has the blackmail, as well. Bex slaps Clive, and Nick tells Clive to run whatever story he wants, because it will not matter. Clive storms off.

When he leaves, Bex and Nick reaffirm their love for each other. They then plan to seek their friends’ help in dealing with Clive. They assemble...
