Chapter XI Summary

When he arrives home Corey suggests to his father that it is time for Mr. Corey and Lapham to meet. The next day Mr. Corey visits Lapham at his office. Lapham is so excited over the visit and upset about his wife's reaction to the visit that Lapham is unable to go to the office the next day. After work Corey visits the Laphams to be sure his boss is not badly ill. Penelope refuses to help Irene entertain Corey this evening, insisting that they should be left alone to learn if they really like each other. Later that evening Penelope learns the two talked about Penelope all evening. The next week Corey comes to visit the Laphams again.
