Summary

In Chapter 32, Cem and Ayse found their own building development company. They name the company Sohrab and view it as a type of substitute for having children. The company does quite well, and Cem finds that he is “a wealthy, middle-aged man” (160). They begin buying more land for new development projects, and they discover that land in Öngören has become a valuable location due to Istanbul’s urban expansion.

In Chapter 33, Cem and Ayse visit Cem’s father, who has remarried. Over the course of dinner conversation, Cem begins to suspect that his father may once have had an affair with Gülcihan, the red-haired woman.
