Summary

This section includes Chapters 7 - 11 and the commencement of Part 2: “Let Love Carry All Your Words; October - December 1942” (59). Chapter 7 begins on October 2, Anton and Elisabeth’s wedding day. They walk with the children to the church and Anton thinks Elisabeth looks like she is “marching into Riga;” resolved and exhausted (61). Anton is dressed in his old uniform, which excites the boys and Anton tells them the story of jumping out of the plane and marching into Riga. He describes the straightness of the roads in Latvia. They reach the church and Elisabeth thanks Anton for mending Maria’s dress, and he offers her his arm, and they walk in together. The chapter ends as the ceremony has ended and the bells ring.
