Part Five: Chapter 19 Summary

The next morning, Mabel opens up the newspaper in New Orleans and exclaims that a girl in Millwood has been killed by a screwdriver in the neck. The newspapers have reported that the murder occurred during a spat with the girl's boyfriend. As soon as Mabel says the name Eva Greene, Mimi and Florence gasp. Florence is especially concerned because she knows Eva doesn't have a boyfriend. Everyone starts crying as Mimi arranges to send Zenie and Ray some flowers. Even though Florence doesn't connect the dots with the scene she witnessed a few days before, but in the narrative, she says that something "flutters" at the corner of her sight like a gnat.
