Summary

While walking on the Mapocho River bridge, Daniela tells herself to focus “on the current” (67). Julián used to tell her this. She has never told anyone this memory, but has used it “in her relationships” (67). Once she even took Fernando to the bridge. She told him to study the current, as if they were her words (67). She told Fernando it was her favorite place.

Over the years, she took every “one of her boyfriends” to the bridge (67). Remembering the time she took Ernesto, she has an urge to go there now and throw something “over the railing” (68). When she was with Ernesto, he seemed suspicious of her. He then recited facts about the bridge.
