Summary

In Chapter 26, April and Carly go to see Cat Skin at The Haunt. While the protagonist is not particularly interested in the band, she is excited to be going out with her new friend. When they get ready at Carly’s apartment, April feels like she has “a big sister, and it’s even better than [she] thought it would be” (162). At the club, April and Carly giddily dance along to the music. While they are talking and fixing their eyeliner in the bathroom, Rosemary emerges from a stall and intentionally knocks April’s bag onto the floor, scattering her belongings across the tiles. The friends leave The Haunt in Chapter 27 and make a campfire by the lake. They talk by the fire and jump into the lake, promising that they’ll return every year.

April realizes that her wallet is missing...
