Summary

In Chapter 17, at Nine’s direction, Four uses the tent to tie Nine to the hood of the RS-80. Four resumes paving the road. Cousin and another man accompany Four to help clear the road of obstacles. Four proceeds at a good pace. After nightfall, Four powers down the vehicle and removes Nine and the tent. Nine’s health appears to be slightly improved. In Chapter 18, after Four falls asleep, he is eventually awoken by the sound of someone yelling and kicking at the tent. Four did not recognize the men, who carried guns. The men seize Four and Nine and put them into a truck. The men drive the truck for an hour, moving back down the paved road, eventually arriving at a village. The commander of the men then says that Nine “violated” (154) one of the women in the village. Four explains...
