Summary

Chapter 9 – Ceony nearly drowns in blood, but she begs Thane to make it stop. It does. She thanks both God and Thane for it. She lets Fennel out of her bag when she appears in Thane’s library. She examines a book about chain spells, realizing that Thane is still trying to teach her. She begins to work on a chain, puts it across her shoulder and breast, and then creates a paper fan. The scene then returns to Ceony’s own graduation, and she is enchanted by the look of pride on Thane’s face in the audience. The scene then shifts to prison, where Ceony sees Lira in a cell. This makes Ceony think of Grath Cobalt, the most dangers Excisioner of all. She realizes that this is Thane’s hope, to hunt down the Excisioners, and that he wants to train...
