Heloise

Heloise is the main character in the story. She is in her mid-forties, has two kids, and is divorced. When Heloise was twelve, her father died in a car accident, which later revealed that he was having an affair. Heloise has been affected by her father's death, having imagined for a long time that she accompanied her mother to the hospital in France to see him. Now, as an adult, Heloise still has questions about the accident, particularly about her father's lover and her friend, who were also in the car. Heloise's relationship with her mother is contentious, and she struggles to cope with the knowledge that her father was cheating on her while also feeling compelled to grieve him.
