Cherry Mill, Wisconsin

Cherry Mill is a small town in Wisconsin that Cassie travels to in “The Office of Historical Corrections” (162) to investigate a decades-old case involving a Black man named Josiah Wynslow. Josiah was believed to have been killed in a fire set by a mob of white residents of the town in the 1930s, but it turns out that he escaped the fire. As Cassie struggles to piece together the mystery of what happened to Josiah’s sister, a woman named Minerva whom Josiah had been searching for in Wisconsin, she meets with the town’s current residents, including some relatives of the people involved in setting the fire. The area is home to a white supremacist, Chase, who goes by the name White Justice and attempts to interfere with Cassie’s investigation.
