Jacob Stevenson

Jake is a recent high school graduate who became a paraplegic after falling from a deck during a wrestling accident at a party. His injury mortified him, robbing him of his mobility and his dignity and confining him to a life in a wheelchair. At the outset of novel, Jake views his injury as a life long prison sentence.

His father, Ed, is an abusive drunk who terrorizes Jake and his wife, Tansy. Jake wants nothing more than to be free from his father's reign of violence and anger. He finds a way out of his childhood home when Alice offers him employment and room and board.
