Summary

In Chapter 20, Danielle shows the Lee Krasner interview to her boss. Although he acknowledges that it places Alizée “among the circle,” it does not prove her relationship to the paintings and Danielle should not pursue the matter on company time. She recalls Lee’s words on Alizée’s time in the sanatorium. Danielle notes that many famous creatives “suffered from some form of mental illness” (129). In her online research, Danielle finds an article on fifteen Abstract Expressionists who worked in New York City in the 1930s and 1940s. “It concluded that more than half of the artists suffered from some kind of mood disorder, 40 percent ended up in mental institutions, two committed suicide” (131).
