Summary

Nora wakes up in a cabin on a boat in “Svalbard.” There is a woman with her, Ingrid, who thanks Nora for her for the chat they had the previous night. Ingrid asks Nora what she is doing here, so far from civilization. Nora answers vaguely, as she does not even know where they are. She learns that they are in Svalbard, Norway, on a glaciology expedition. Nora spots a gun in the corner of the room, which excites her and makes her feel proud. She feels certain that in this life, she is having an adventure.

Nora meets another fellow glaciologist in “Hugo Lefèvre.” Hugo teases Nora for having the role of spotter that day. Nora has no clue what a spotter does but looks forward to doing it, nonetheless.
