Chapters 21-25 Summary

Anita leaves the university and walks in the dark, thinking about the missing lycanthropes and Richard. Caught off guard, she is slammed to the ground by Gretchen, pinning her gun beneath her. The vampire bears down on her, fangs visible, trying to reach Anita's throat. Civilians scream on the street, and Anita is suddenly free, a wererat knocking Gretchen off Anita. The vampire whirls on the wererat, who Anita assumes is Louie. The two struggle, and the vampire sinks her teeth into the rat. The rat screeches and the vampire feeds, while Anita tries to get a clear shot at Gretchen. Unable to do so without risking Louie, Anita tells her that she has accepted Richard's proposal of marriage, knowing that the vampire could smell it if she were lying. Gretchen stops feeding on the wererat and demands that Anita drop...
